Dream Big Little One

Way back to when I was pregnant with Adelyne I was drawn to the saying "Dream big little one", it was actually one of the first things I set up when making a space for her in the kids room (check it out here). This little phrase was the whole inspiration behind her little bohemian themed party we had yesterday to celebrate her upcoming first birthday!

The day couldn't have been more perfect, the weather was beautiful, there was space for us at the park, and the kids had their naps prior to it all making for a good + happy time for all!

I have to say I wish all my kids birthdays were in the summer, outdoor parties are way easier! I had very minimal decorations (and even less because I forgot one at home... duh!) and had a playground and beach to keep the kids entertained, add in some lawn chairs and some yardzee and badda bing badda boom adults are happily entertained too.

Biggest priority was making sure there was plenty of yummy food! On the menu was Apple Blackberry Crumble, chocolate haystacks, strawberry pink lemonade, watermelon, veggies + dip, a little something we call "bonuts".... a donut recipe gone wonderfully wrong haha, what should have been donuts turned out to be yummy biscuit-like cookies. And most importantly Adelyne's very first birthday cake (A pink velvet cake, inspiration and recipe found here) that is quite honestly my pride and joy of the whole party (apart from Adelyne of course haha).

DIY Thursday - Owl Goodie Bags

During that precious thing call nap time I got a moment to myself to get crafty....one of my favorite things to do!

I have been working on some DIY projects for Rylee's first birthday party which of course is owl themed. Today I went to work on cute owl goodie bags so now it's time to share how easy they are!

If your like me and have obscene amounts of scrapbook paper lying around then it's a super cheap project as your only expense is gong to be for the paper bags which you can find at the dollar store.

Supplies:
Scissors
Glue
Paper
Paper Bags

First thing I did was trim the bags down because they are quite tall. Then I folded the top over and cut it to be a triangle shape.

Next I cut out all the different size circles for the eyes, the beaks, and body (this is the tedious part but once its all done its smooth sailing).

Now to assemble all these pieces. Glue the body to the bag, then glue all the eye pieces together and glue them to the bag over the body piece, and last but not least glue the beak on.

Once you've filled it with all it's goodies staple the top of the bag. (What did I tell you...easy peasy!)

DIY Thursday

Thursday's are officially the day I will share with you a project that I am working on, this week I introduce the owl pom pom! (Original tutorial I found here) I plan on using these as favors to put in Rylee's first birthday goodie bags... keeping with the owl theme! 

This is a super easy, quick, cheap, and even kid friendly project (with a little supervision).

Your Supplies:

Wool (any kind will work)

Cardboard 

Scissors

Felt 

Hot Glue Gun

Plastic Google Eyes, Buttons, or Rhinestone stickers

Step 1: Cut out two circles from cardboard (I traced around a water glass), then cut out a smaller circle in the center of each.

Step 2: Put the two circles together and begin to wrap your wool around (Don't wrap too tight).

Step 3: Keep wrapping.

Step 4: Wrap the wool until the small middle circle has no more room.

Step 5: Place your scissors between the two pieces of cardboard and cut through the wool.

Step 6: Cut a piece of wool and wrap it around between the two pieces of cardboard. Tightly tie a knot, then tie a double knot on the other side of the pom to secure it. 

Step 7: Pull off the two pieces of cardboard. Trim the wool you used to tie the pom. (congratulations you've made a pom pom!)

Step 8: Use a hot glue gun to secure the beak, feet, and eyes that you have cut out of felt. Now step back and look at your creation....an OWL POM!
